Bollywood megastar Akshay Kumar rings in his 42nd birthday on 09.09.09.“Yes, I’m ecstatic,” he told Times of India. Akshay had just flown in to Mumbai after a 60-day schedule overseas. He concedes that 9 is his lucky number and, of course, hopes that life will continue to spring pleasant surprises for him.

Besides being on air currently, in the most talked about television show, the action hero also has two back-to-back film releases lined up. Blue on October 16, and De Dana Dan in November.

His birthday resolution, he says, “Is to take it easy. I don’t wish to do more than two/three films a year. My desire is to spend more time with my wife Twinkle and son Araav. Araav is growing up fast… and I want to be around him whenever I can. It’s great to watch your son grow and do the normal father-son bonding that all dads long for.”

Like many of his superstar colleagues does he dream of owning a cricket team next IPL season? “No,” replies Akshay, “because I don’t have the expertise to treat cricket as a business. I love cricket, I understand the game but I’m not equipped to handle my own team, at least not this coming season.”

Is he superstitious about 9.9.09? “I’m superstitious when I’m told to be, the rest of the time, I walk in a daze… I’m just glad I wasn’t born on 6.6.06, I would have been the devil child or something… Now I’m just the emergency number in England ‘999’.

Is it a good thing? Only my mother knows! If you are in need of help and you live in London just dial ‘me’ and the emergency services will be right with you… ha-ha-ha! But what I love about 9 is that all wonderful things have happened around that number.

Me, my son, my sister and her daughter were all born in the ninth month, my parents’ wedding was in the ninth month, my first house and my last house I bought in the ninth month, all my cars are numbered 9 and I’ve never had a crash off set yet.

It’s a gifted number, but knowing me, I’ll probably get hit by lightning and slashed with a silver streak in my hair and get scarred with a 9 on my forehead on my birthday.
